abstractsThe mathematical model of boundary layer for nonlinear wave input has been proposed. It enables one to calculate the instantaneous and mean current velocity profiles and temporal distribution of bottom shear stress. The results of computations are compared with laboratory measurements of van Doorn & Godefroy (1978). The agreement seems to be satisfactory.

abstractsIn this paper wave – current boundary layer concept is presented. In the model Kajiura's (1968) and Brevik's (1981) eddy viscosity models have been adapted. The iteration method has been employed to determine shear stress distributions in time and velocity profiles. The equation of motion in the boundary layer is solved numerically. Comparisons are made with some laboratory experiments and a good agreement between experimental results and predictions is reached. Two types of combined wave and current boundary layers have been discussed.

abstractsA theoretical model describing both instantaneous and time-averaged quantities of velocity and friction inside the turbulent boundary layer generated by interacting nonlinear wave and current has been presented. The results of computations of velocities inside the boundary layer under nonlinear wave and current have been compared with the laboratory data of Hwung & Lin’s (1990) experiment. The agreement of computed and measured both instantaneous and mean velocity profiles is satisfactory.

abstractsThe paper deals with transient vibrations of a rigid block and initial generation of waves in a layer of fluid of constant depth. The considerations are confined to the two-dimensional linearized problem of free vibrations of the block-fluid system starting from rest. Fourier transform technique is applied to solve the initial problems mentioned. Solution of the problems leads to improper integrals which need approximate numerical integrations. The considerations performed and formulae obtained are illustrated by numerical examples. The method proposed seems to be useful in applications especially in cases when the domain of solution is relatively regular.
