Title: Multi-scale study of the contact force network in cohesion-less granular materials
Implementation period: 2021-2025
The subject of research: evolution of contact force fields in non-cohesive granular materials under the influence of load and deformation on a scale from micro to macro.
The main research methods: 2D (full-field) and 3D (axisymmetric) photo-elastic tests, numerical simulations by DEM and FEM methods.
Recording of results: DaVis 2D and 3D system, VHX digital microscope.
Analysis of experimental results: DIC method (2D tests) and tomographic reconstruction (3D tests)
Numerical simulations: TASK Centre, TRYTON supercomputer, LIGGGHTS software
Expected results: obtaining new knowledge about the behaviour of granular materials, developing the principle of operation of the 'photo-elastic tomograph'.
