SEDIMENT TRANSPORT IN
RIVERS AND TRANSITIONAL WATERS General infoThe
3-day seminar will be organized in Hotel Renusz on Sobieszewo island (part of the city of Gdańsk) on the 19-21 May 2005.
The main aim of the seminar is to exchange the existing knowledge on sediment transport problems in rivers and transitional waters with an emphasis on deltas in regions of different character. About 30 participants from Polish scientific institutions, as well as from EU and non-EU institutions, including invited lectures and PhD students, is expected. Important dates Those who wish to attend the seminar are requested to fill in the application
form (MS WORD file) by January 10th 2005, while the abstracts should be send by February 15th 2005. By March 4th 2005 list of participants and accepted abstracts will be closed. Centre for Environmental Engineering and Mechanics - CEM fax: +48 58 552 14 11 Abstract preparationAbstract should be prepared according to the Instructions for preparation of the extended abstract. All pictures please attach as independent files in one of the following formats: *.tiff, *.pcx or *.eps. Deliverables The presentations will be published in the Book of abstracts handed in at the start of the Seminar, while the final materials will be published as CD, based on Power Point presentations given during the seminar. General schedule The Seminar will be held from Wednesday 18th (arrival) to Sunday 22nd May 2005 (departure - Gdańsk) in Hotel Renusz located on the Sobieszewo Island on the Baltic Sea. This island is a part of the city of Gdańsk, Poland. The northern border of the island is the waters of Gdańsk Bay, while its southern border is a branch of the Vistula river, called Martwa Wisła (Dead Vistula). The eastern border was created in 1840 during the flooding and creation of a new mouth of Vistula called Wisła Śmiala (Brave Vistula). The western border was created in 1895 as a new, artificial mouth of Vistula, called Przekop Wisły. This unique area in Poland seems to be the perfect place for discussion on the sediment transport problems in deltas being artificially created.
The working days will be Thursday and Friday, while on Saturday a field trip will be organized.
Thursday 19th May 2005. Scientific presentations will be given in the session: Sediment transport problems in rivers.
Friday 20th May 2005. Scientific presentations will be given in the session: Sediment transport problems in transitional waters and deltas.
Saturday 21st May 2005. Field trip – boat trip to see the Vistula River mouth (Wisła Przekop) from marine and river side. Bus trip – river trained by groins and Malbork Castle Museum. After the excursion transfer to the hotel in Gdańsk center.
